Introduction to the Course
Water Resources are under pressure from increased demand, climate change and variability, fragmented and uncoordinated development and management leading to over abstraction, pollution, and conflicts thereby threatening the survival of the ecosystems. IWRM is a concept that seeks to address; water governance, securing water for people, securing water for food production, gender disparities, and protecting vital ecosystems.
Course Objectives
This training is aimed at
• Providing an introductory or refresher course on (IWRM).
• Provide the case for IWRM and the arguments against those who may oppose it on institutional or sectoral grounds.
• Equipping the participants with knowledge and skills required to support a process leading to the development of an IWRM plan which is both politically and socially acceptable and can be implemented.
Target Participants
This brief introductory course is aimed at policy makers, water managers, trainers and educators who want a basic understanding of IWRM principles. The course provides a wider understanding of IWRM framework and principles in practice for education institutions, community organizations, water/environment related government and NGO practitioners.
